His Life:
-
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in
Hardin County, Kentucky.

In 1816 Abraham and his family moved to Indiana
partly on account of slavery but mostly because
land titles in Kentucky were becoming difficult
to hold.

In 1818 his mother died and his father remarried
the next year.
-
In 1830 the Lincolns moved to Illinois.
-
In 1832 Abraham Lincoln ran for the Illinois
legislature but, he was not successful.
-
He ran again in 1834. This time he was elected
to the lower house and held this position until
1841. The party he was affiliated with was the
Whig party.
-
He became a lawyer in 1836. This law firm was a
successful business for him although he did not
seek capital gain.

On November 4, 1842 Lincoln married Mary Todd.
-
They had four sons: Robert Todd, Edward Baker,
William Wallace, and Thomas.
-

U.S. House of Representatives.
-
After his tenure in the House he went back to
Illinois and continued as a lawyer.
-
In 1860 Lincoln ran for the presidency as the
Republican candidate.
-
He won the presidency mostly on the fact that
the Democratic party was torn in two between the
North and the South.
-
By the time Lincoln was inaugurated in 1861,
seven states had already seceded.
-
On April 12, 1861 the Civil War began when South
Carolina fired at Fort Sumter.
-
The Civil War was not Lincoln's only problem. He
also had to deal with politics.
-
In 1864 one of his former General, George McClellan, ran for office against him.
-
Lincoln won the presidency again but the war
still did not end.
-
On April 9th, 1865 Robert E. Lee surrendered
ending the Civil War.
-
Five days later on April 14th, 1865 Lincoln went
to a play with his wife. During this play John
Wilkes Booth slipped into Lincoln's box and shot
him in the head.
-
Abraham Lincoln died the next day at 7:22 AM at
the hospital.
