Use these databases to find reliable, quality information.  Searches often return more reliable and more specific information in less time than the Internet.  Each database has helpful tips for searching.  Some of our Online Subscription Databases are available for home use (For LSHS Faculty and Staff only) For remote ID/Password information click on Database Passport. You will need one password to access all the available remote passwords. Just ask the LSHS LMC for that password.

BiographyReverse

SRC Gold is a fully integrated database containing thousands of curriculum-targeted primary documents, biographies, topical essays, background information, critical analyses, full-text coverage of over 1,000 magazines and newspapers.
A Thompson Gale database, this database provides essays, reference works, and magazine articles for literature, history, biography, science, and social studies.

A research database with more than 2,000 full-text sources, "with improved functionality, and a fun and easy-to-use search interface. Includes magazines, newspapers, books, television/radio transcripts, maps, pictures, and audio video clips" (from eLibrary link). Initial interface also links to World Conflicts Today and Culture Grams databases.

EBSCOlink

This link leads to several databases, including Academic Search Elite, MasterFILE Premier, MAS Ultra-School Edition, health databaes, and business databases. Many (though not all) are full text articles.

NewsBank NewsBank carries subscriptions to most Missouri newspapers including The KC Star and St. Louis Post-Dispatch as well as national papers such as USA Today, The Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune.
SIRS Provides access to full-text articles and Internet resources from SIRS databases. Click on Begin a new session to start your search.
WOrldBook All of the great articles, pictures, etc. you find in the World Book Encyclopedia.  Great for general studies.
CultureGrams The CultureGrams World Edition is a concise reference tool. A great reference for information about countries around the world and information on all 50 states in the U.S.

LXpress

This database is available through September 30, 2009. It offers seemingly endless test preparation resources for the ACT, SAT, graduate school, teacher PRAXIS exams, and citizenship, plus career tests for EMS, cosmetology, real estate, health, law enforcement. There are also resources for job interviewing skills and for improving writing, reading, and mathematics skills. Note: You can log on at home once you've registered yourself from a school computer. Just remember the username and password you create!

Easy to use, searchable tutorials on nearly any software or computer operating system. Includes updated current events and reference atlas. Click 'subscriber login' and enter password/login from your teacher (or web passport) to get in at school or home.

eBooks

Search and view our eLibrary of resource books. All content is searchable.
